The Livingston Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness Amateur Radio Club

Livingston Parish, Louisiana: On July 20, the LOHSEP Amateur Radio Club held its first meeting at the Livingston Office of Emergency Preparedness (LOHSEP). Organized to support and provide communication assistance to the parish during emergencies, the club plans to recruit new amateur radio operators from the local community and train with ARES members in the surrounding area. Also planned is construction of a new wide-area UHF repeater system to provide communication throughout the region. Sammy Williams (WZ5A) was selected as founding president. Mr. Williams, who recently retired from State Government, has an extensive background in public safety communication systems. Additional board members include Roger Farbe (N5NXL) as Vice President, Laura Williams as Secretary/Treasurer.


Over twenty (30) licensed amateur radio operators attended the meeting as well as several prospective new radio operators. LOHSEP Director, Mark Harrell, spoke to the group about the value of amateur radio during emergency communications events. Other guests included John Wascom (KB5WFQ) - Dist. 4 Livingston Parish Council; Travis Johnson (KE5FXC) - Interoperability Program Manager Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness; and Matt Anderson (KD5KNZ) - Louisiana ARRL Assistant Section Manager.
